The following criteria are given to help you evaluate whether or not you qualify to serve the Lord with Campus Crusade for Christ in another country. These criteria are not for the purpose of judging your relationship with the Lord or your worth in the body of Christ, but will help you determine whether or not you should proceed with the application process.
Applicants must have been a Christian for a minimum
of one year before applying to work with Campus Crusade for Christ in another
country. Applicants must have a basic knowledge of Scripture and be in full
agreement with Campus Crusade for Christ's Statement of Faith, our emphasis on
Scripture and its application to daily living, and our emphasis on the ministry
of the Holy Spirit. Applicants need to be mature enough in their walk with the
Lord to build into the lives of others.
Campus Crusade for Christ is looking for people who maintain a lifestyle of personal holiness. Scripture places some restrictions on a mature believer's liberty in Christ, in that while serving Christ the person must act with sensitivity towards others. As a result, we ask those working with us to be willing to give up any social habits that might lessen their effectiveness and ability to represent Christ and the ministry of Campus Crusade for Christ to others.
An applicant must demonstrate a concern for others and a willingness to learn how to introduce others to Christ.
Tongues
Speaking in tongues can be a divisive issue among Christians. Because of this
Campus Crusade for Christ asks its workers who believe they have the gift of
tongues not to promote the use of tongues or use the gift in public. Workers
may use this gift in their own private worship if they so desire.
Applicants should be dependable,
willing to assume responsibility, teachable, flexible, able to adapt to
stressful and demanding circumstances, and have a good reputation. An
applicant must be able to relate, communicate and work well with others. The
demands of support development and an initiative-oriented ministry necessitate
that an individual have a reasonable degree of self-assurance and an ability to
handle pressure.
Campus Crusade for Christ requires that applicants exhibit strong moral
convictions and practice. As a ministry we must evaluate the moral character of
applicants in light of biblical standards. Any violation of these standards
may affect their acceptance or timing of their acceptance. The following are
specific areas that are evaluated:
If a person has struggled with sexual purity (pornography, pre-marital or extra-marital sex, homosexual involvement, etc.) in the past, he is not necessarily disqualified from serving with Campus Crusade. Two conditions for service are that (1) it can be determined that their convictions are strong and consistent with Scripture, and (2) a sufficient "time-tested" track record of victory has been established. Below are some general time qualifications:
· Pornography: A person who has been a user of pornography must be free from this for a minimum of one-year.
· Pre-marital relationships: If a person has been involved in pre-marital sex, at least a one-year period of sexual purity is required prior to acceptance with Campus Crusade.
· Extra-marital relationships: If extra-marital sex has occurred, there must be at least a two-year period of sexual purity.
· Same-sex relationships: A past, established lifestyle of homosexuality will most likely disqualify an applicant for staff. In cases where occurrences of homosexual activity have been limited, a minimum of three years of sexual purity is required prior to acceptance.
Campus Crusade for Christ workers minister to a broad spectrum of the Christian community. To some believers in church leadership and in the mainstream of the body of Christ, drinking alcohol would be considered a questionable activity. Campus Crusade for Christ takes a conservative view on the use of alcohol and our culture is basically one of abstinence. This means that should you ever decide to take a drink, you need to give serious thought to its consequences and to how it may affect those who may see or even hear about such an occurrence (see 1 Cor. 8, 10 and Rom. 14).
Our policy requires that a person who has habitually used tobacco (smoking, dipping, chewing) should refrain from its use for a minimum of six months before joining.
Applicants must have a minimum of a high school diploma but most of our ministries require a college degree. Older applicants with little or no high school or college background may substitute life experience for this.
Marriage/Engagement
We consider a husband and wife to be a team; therefore, couples must be in
agreement as to their leading to the ministry of Campus Crusade, and both must
apply and be accepted. Couples must be married at least one year before
applying to serve internationally. Those applying for an international
assignment should not be in a serious dating relationship or engaged to be
married. Those who are engaged or newly married can still join Campus Crusade
for Christ in the United States but should delay applying for international
service until they meet the one year qualification.
Divorce
Divorce does not necessarily disqualify a person from service with Campus
Crusade for Christ. Our main concerns are the circumstances that surrounded
the divorce, how recent the divorce has been, the applicant's current
convictions regarding marriage and divorce, and the applicant's reputation.
Two years of consistent Christian living must elapse between the time of
divorce and submitting an application. Any applicant who is separated will not
be considered.
Single Parents
When a parent finds himself/herself forced to parent children alone, the
demands are tremendous. The demands of full-time ministry would jeopardize
adequate time, energy or attention for the children. For this reason, Campus
Crusade for Christ does not invite single parents to apply unless the children
are grown and independent.
Couples with dependent children may apply. However, acceptance and placement are restricted to limited locations where adequate medical care and schooling is available. Home schooling may be an option in certain locations.
We do not want a person to join Campus Crusade for Christ with indebtedness that would prove to be a hardship based on our salary scale. Debt limits are in two areas and vary depending on whether a person is applying for Staff or STINT (the following does not apply to Associate Staff):
International

joining the staff of Campus Crusade for Christ will commit to at least a
two-year international assignment. STINT assignments are usually from nine to
fifteen months.
Citizenship in the United States is not required in order to work with Campus Crusade for Christ in the United States. However, applicants who are not citizens must either have a current work
permit or permanent residency prior to submitting an application for US staff or they will not be considered for an international assignment. Applicants
without either of these may submit applications to the Campus Crusade
ministries in their home countries.
Individuals serving with Campus Crusade for Christ are responsible for raising their own financial support. Training is provided for this support development.
Applicants should be physically fit. If you have a medical condition that requires specialized treatment, you may be disqualified due to the lack of readily accessible or adequate medical facilities. A doctor’s approval is necessary for those wishing to serve in another country.
